English Program

WHAT IS IT?

The English program at Yayasan is open to underprivileged and orphaned children who have a passion for studying, particularly English. As an educational institution, the English program at Yayasan is designed to be engaging and enjoyable.

This program not only focuses on English language learning but also encourages students to develop independence and diligence through activities such as gardening and handicrafts.

The majority of students in this program do not have disabilities and are capable of attending regular public schools. Many of these students are sponsored, which assists in covering their educational expenses. In return for this support, they are expected to work diligently and excel academically.

Additionally, students maintain regular communication with their individual sponsors through weekly email exchanges, fostering a sense of connection and gratitude. Every six months, educational fee records are provided to sponsors to keep them updated on their sponsored students’ progress.

HOW IT WORKS?

The English program offers free educational classes with four distinct levels, all aimed at fostering students’ confidence in utilizing their English skills, encompassing listening, reading, speaking, and writing.

Group A

Group A represents the initial level of the program. Here, students are introduced to the fundamental aspects of the English language, including greetings, introductions, basic vocabulary, and sometimes simple sentence construction. Typically, there are 10-15 students in this class, ranging in age from 6 to 10 years on average.

Group B

Group B represents the second level of the program. At this stage, students delve into a slightly more advanced level of English, including the introduction of basic English grammar concepts. This class usually comprises 10-20 students, with an age range of 9 to 14 years on average.

Group C

Group C constitutes the third level of the program. Students in this group tackle a higher level of English proficiency compared to Group B. They begin to explore more complex grammar structures, such as the past tense. Group C typically comprises 8-15 students, with an average age range of 10 to 15 years.

Group D

Group D represents the fourth and most advanced level of the English program. Here, students reach a higher level of English proficiency than the other groups. Occasionally, they also have the opportunity to learn other languages, such as Chinese and Japanese, with the assistance of volunteers. Group D generally consists of 8-13 students, with an age range of 12 to 17 years on average.

Leisure Walk and Plastic Cleanup

Leisure Walk and Plastic Cleanup is one of the scheduled activities conducted by all Yayasan members. During this event, all children and volunteers take a stroll through the garden, passing by expansive stretches of lush rice fields, while simultaneously contributing to environmental conservation by collecting plastic waste along the way.

This program serves as an opportunity for both children and volunteers to develop self-awareness, foster a sense of unity, and practice effective teamwork. Moreover, it can be viewed as a form of self-care, leading to a more positive and improved overall well-being.
